Most business people think they need to try and get every single customer they possibly can. They market to a wide, general audience. They view everyone as a prospect.
They even do it with niches and target every person within the niche. A dog trainer sees every dog owner as a potential customer, or a wedding planner sees every engaged couple as a prospect.
The truth is, you don’t want to get every single customer that you possibly can, and you particularly don’t want to talk to every single possible customer.
In fact, you want to weed out customers right from the very start!
Weeding out Customers
Now why in the world would you want to weed out potential customers? Why would you turn away sales and business from anyone?
Because not everyone is a good fit for you and your business.
Sure, you might make a sale. You might be able to talk them into buying, or convince them that they need what you have.
You might be so good that you can talk anyone into buying what you are offering!
But that just leaves you with customers who feel sold to, and who are not really digging what you’re offering, and are certainly not interested in buying from you again.
Instead, why not attract loyal fans who absolutely love you and don’t even want to buy from someone else (even if it’s cheaper)!
Find Fans Instead of Customers
You want to attract the people that you love to work with – and that love to work with you. You want people who love the same things you do, who jive with your personality, and who cannot wait for you to create another product for them to buy!
Does this sound like more fun than the traditional way of getting every customer you possibly can?
It should, because this method allows you to be yourself, and surrounds you with people who you can really have fun with and enjoy getting to know.
Remember, people do business with people who they like, know and trust. It’s that simple. Build those connections and relationships, be yourself and watch your fan base grow.
Fans Recognize Value
Your fan customers are the ones who see the real value in what you offer – and are willing to pay for it! In fact, they often see more value than even you see, and are willing to pay more than you think they will.
Your fans hang out at your blog, sign up for your newsletter, and purchase your products because you help them solve a problem. The information you provide is timely and helpful, and they love how you present it! Chances are, they could get the same or similar info elsewhere, but they just like hanging out with you. And they’ll pay more to be able to get that info from you instead of from someone else!
Building a business with a loyal fan base of customers is the best way to make more money, and have a ton more fun with your business.
How to Find Raving Fans
The best way to attract raving fans is really, really simple.
Be yourself.
And be yourself in everything you do! Whether you are writing a blog post or Facebook update, creating your sales page or website copy, designing your business cards or brochures, let your personality and style into everything you do. Put yourself in there. Use the language that you normally use, talk about the things that you love to talk about, be open and real.
Yes, you can even talk about your hobbies, interests, experiences and more!
One of my favorite people to learn from is Marie Forleo and she is very good at being herself and putting herself into everything that she does. She uses the f-word and other colorful language because that’s how she normally talks. She is enthusiastic and can even come across as extremely blunt, because she is just being who she is. She is not trying to be someone else.
And people like me, and other raving fans, absolutely love her for it! And she gets to work with people that she enjoys working with.
Are you ready to do the same?
