rollercoaster weekends and breaking bad habits

It was one of those rollercoaster weekends. Up, then down – then resolve to change my bad habits so the drama doesn’t happen again.

I had a wonderful night out with friends Saturday night for a Haiti Relief Benefit concert – good music, good company and beer. Too much beer was the problem. And all too frequently too much beer brings up drama. I don’t know if there are feelings/pain/emotions/etc that I haven’t dealt with that bubble to the surface when I drink too much, or if it’s something else. But it isn’t pretty when it happens! And after another bout of drama, I have determined that this must stop. I must learn where my limit is and not ever go past it.

Easier said than done! Though not impossible, I know. I’ve never been very good at breaking bad habits, though, so I better get some help on this one. I need a system to follow, something to help me stick with it and push through when it gets tough to hold myself accountable. And I need people to support me.

This extends beyond just drinking, as well. I have gotten lazy in other areas and the results are not fun or pretty. A major acne breakout has been the result of cheating big time on my new diet – and get this, I started cheating just when I started to see really great results!

So why do I sabotage myself so badly? And how do I change the subconscious thoughts and patterns to lead me to sabotage?

And more importantly, how can I set myself up for success and program my mind to support me in breaking bad habits and replacing them with healthy habits that support me in achieving the success I want?

I am far too good at coming up with excuses, reasons why it’s okay to “do it this once” or “cheat this time only”. And we all know where that leads!

So I need a system that won’t leave any room for excuses and cheating, that will hold me accountable when I can’t hold myself accountable.

I need to do some research and find a system and solution that will work for me – off to ask Google and my Twitter community!

What's your why ? This is the most important question you can ask yourself.
Every decision has a consequence good or bad……..it is always easier to take the path of least resistance and then justify it !!
Don't be too hard on yourself either, focus on your reason why and use some good old fashion discipline and just say NO……..use a reward system…..treat yourself every once in awhile Good Luck….

Thanks for commenting, Mike! Your comment did get submitted, it just had to be approved by me to go live, so that's why you didn't see it. ;) You've now been added to my “Whitelist” for the Disqus comments, so they should be immediately approved from now on! :)

The reason why is a good one – Tony Robbins talks a lot about having a good reason why too. :) And like we were talking earlier, rewarding yourself is also good – something I definitely need to do more of!!! I tend to get too hard on myself and forget to reward myself when I accomplish something, or even when I move in the right direction toward something! :) Thanks for the reminder!
