My week started out kinda blah. I felt scattered, wasn’t quite sure what I was doing or what I *should* be doing. I had hoped that taking the whole weekend away from the computer would help me get clear on some stuff, but it seemed like I came back to it more blurry than ever.
It was frustrating! I felt unmotivated, stressed out, even a bit depressed. I kept thinking and trying to figure out what I needed to do.
So I reached out to my awesome coaching group and asked for some support or a kick in the butt, or whatever would help me climb out of my funk.
I got my kick in the butt in the form of advice that told me to stop thinking and get into action.
Which I did. And it promptly cleared the fog, showed me my direction and got me inspired and excited about what I’ve got going on.
The action I took was to set up the Facebook & Twitter Branding special that I am running until the end of the month. Once I decided to do the special, then I had lots to keep me busy with putting up the little sales page for it, updating my portfolio, chatting with people who were interested.
What a difference a bit of action makes! At soon as I stopped trying to figure it all out in my head and just started doing something the blahs were cleared right out of my day and I started feeling amazing.
The key was to get out of my head and stop thinking about it. My mind is very good at running circles and over-thinking everything. That’s its job! But I am not my mind, and I have to get out of my mind and into ACTION to get things done. And once I take that one action, then the next step becomes clear…
Is there something that you’ve been feeling stuck on? Is there some action you can take right now to start to move forward on it?

Hi Jess,
I’m just happy to know I’m not the only one who feels like this from time to time, although it seems to be happening more often. There are just days when I don’t have the motivation or inspiration. I used to feel guilty about not posting on my blog every day. I tend to go around all the blogs I follow and just read, which seems to work.
Have a great weekend.
It is always nice to know there are others who experience and feel the same things.
I love “blog surfing”, as I call it – always fun to read what others are writing and participate in the conversation.
Thanks for dropping by again!
Hearing you Jess,
There’s so much sweet stuff around, ideas turn into the things that hold you back and that sucks. Sometimes you just have to tune out and knuckle down.
Only wish I could do more practising than preaching about it.
Just found this site btw and your writing’s slick. like it.
Marc
Hi Marc! Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment!
Yes, the knuckling down can certainly be easier said than done!

I know exactly how you feel. I’ve struggled with the same thing and what works for me is my notebook. I make notes – I carry it with me almost everywhere and whenever a blog topic or business idea strikes, I write it down with a few details. Keeps me sane. Because starting a business can drive you batty!!!
Kimberly, I love the notebook idea and have recently started doing the same thing with the Notes app on my iPod Touch. I have a list of post ideas, one of niche ideas and various other thoughts that come to me while I am out and about. It works beautifully and is so nice to have at my finger tips when I need some inspiration!
Thanks so much for dropping by!
Oh how often does this happen to me! It seems to happen most to me when there’s so much going on that I don’t focus. I find lists help tremendously. You have actually inspired my next blog post – do you mind if I link to this and post along a similar theme?
Hi Louise! You are very welcome to link to it.
I’m honored to have inspired your post and will check it out soon. Thanks so much for dropping by!
Oh Jess!
I was procrastinating on twitter and avoiding my #31DBBB (where I found you) work thinking the same thing. My mind is blurry, not with uncertainty of what to do, but being overwhelmed by all the over-thinking of things I want to or *should* get done.
It’s nice to see that I’m not alone with the blurriness, and great advice on just taking a step of action.
I have to agree, when I just knuckle down and choose just ONE thing to do, it creates the momentum & clarity I need to take the next step and the next step.
Thanks again for sharing!
Hi Brenda! Yes, that over-thinking can be a huge block and very quickly gets me stuck for sure!
Glad it resonated with you – and thanks for checking out my blog!
Jess: Great advice and great real world example you shared. I have noticed the same thing. Sometimes when we feel we are in a rut, the best thing we can do is to just take action and move forward. Productivity and progress stimulates something inside of us that reignites our passion and inspiration. It is all about just taking a step forward and trusting that after you do, the other steps that are necessary will follow.
That’s exactly it, Sibyl! Interesting how that works…

Hi Jess, fairplay to you for getting over it. Sounds like you’re in with the right crowd.
I read a post earlier today where someone was saying similar and they haven’t yet got over it. One of the comments that was left said to look out the window and see whats happening: Raining, dogs barking etc and then just sit at the PC and type about it for ten minutes.
It sounds like a good idea to help get over the over thinking.
Have you heard of the 100 blog comment challenge yet? The aim is to get as many people as possible taking part and get everyone commenting on each others blogs, sending tweets and bookmarking each others sites.
I’ve created my post for the challenge. I can’t leave a link here as comment luv has cached for 50 minutes, it’s been doing it all day today.
If you want to take part in the challenge let me know and i’ll add your details to my contributors page and try and pass some traffic your way.
Either way Jess well done on overcoming the obsticle.
Take care, Barry
Hi Barry! Thanks for stopping by.
I’ve heard sosmeone else talk about the writing for 10 minutes too. I am definitely going to have to try it!
I’d love to participate in the blog challenge, however I am out of town until next week and do not have a vey good Internet connection. I’ll get in touch with you when I am back and ready to rock!
This is a great piece of write up and really motivational for the mind. i just want to add that as a person, you don’t need to bother yourself much about what people say but, rather believe more in yourself ( abilities)
Hi Richard;
Yes, you are right – believing in ourselves is oh so important!
