What am I Afraid of?

I hear so many people talk about being afraid to publish a blog post, being afraid to launch a new program, or various other things for their business. But they go ahead and do it anyway, regardless of the fear. They push through it and experience major growth and magic because of it!

So it got me thinking: What am I afraid of? I’m not afraid to publish a particularly truthful blog post. I’m not afraid of what people will think of what I say on Facebook, Twitter or other places online. So what are those fears that hold me back?

And this morning I noticed one as I contemplated where my business is going and what it means for my current job. I’ve been talking about quitting the job for a very long time, but I haven’t actually taken the step to do so. My business is now picking up, I have some new clients, and more importantly, I really know that I can make it work!

But the thought of actually quitting my job scares me. As much as I have been wanting to quit, the idea of not having a consistent paycheck, and not knowing where the money is going to come from to pay my bills every month, is a scary one for me.

I’ve gotten comfortable in this routine and it feels safe. But in reality, it’s not. It’s no more secure than anything else in this economy and the world. It’s just an illusion of security.

And bingo! There’s one of the things I am afraid of!

Maybe it’s time to just cut loose and really show myself that I can do it.

Another thing I am absolutely terrified of is speaking in front of people. So what am I doing? I’m planning some local training events/seminars to get myself out there in front of people and share what I know about using Facebook for business, and other Internet marketing training.

And I’m planning live Webinars to teach the same stuff through an online medium.

I’m setting the wheels in motion to get myself out there in front of people and to learn to teach, train and speak to them.

I am breaking through my fears. And I am confident that I, too, will experience growth and new challenges as I move forward through the fear.

What are you afraid of and how is it holding you back in your life and in your business?

Jess – What a great! There are all sorts of things I hold back on because of fear. I’m getting better and getting things sorted out in my mind and then slowly moving forward, but I haven’t hit that business building windfall yet. I’m so happy for you and am rooting for you all the way! I love public speaking – LMK if you want to practice via Skype! ;)

Thanks, Amber! So cool to see you here! :)

There are certainly more things that I hold back on because of fear, those were just the two that came to mind when I was thinking about it today, and the two that I know I need to tackle next! ;) Can’t wait to see what happens when I face those fears head-on!

Awesome that you love public speaking! ;) Any tips on how to do it effortlessly? :P

  2. Yay for you! That is so great Jess. I hear a lot of similar things being said on the twitterverse these days- So I know you will get a ton of support. I’m afraid of public speaking too- and the next opportunity that arrises to do it- I’m going to. And I’m going to think of you. :)

      Thanks, Megan!

Yes, there certainly is lots of support out there – one of the things I LOVE about the Internet and Social Media is the connection with other like-minded people who are right there to support and encourage. Like you! :)

Good for you for determining to take the chance to speak next time it arises! ;)

LOL – didn’t we have a conversation about this a day or two ago?

I am walking the same path behind you – working toward being able to quit the “day job.” And I know I need to start getting out of my comfort zone by doing some of these things (the public speaking is a huge one for me!).

    You inspire me!

    xoxo

      Lori;
Yes, we did – that was part of what got me thinking about it and helped inspire this post. ;)

Public speaking has always been huge for me as well. I am going to start doing some practicing by hosting some webinars… Then move out into local in-person events. I figure that way I get a bit of practice talking to people so that when I actually get in front of a live group I’ll at least know that I can say what I want to say…. :P

Glad to be an inspiration – and soooo glad to have you alongside on this journey! :)
