Being Yourself and Living Your Passions: A Blog Carnival

It’s Blog Carnival time!

This is something new I am trying here on my blog, so please let me know if you like it, if it’s helpful, and if I should keep doing it! :)

The topic for this carnival is “Being Yourself and Living Your Passions”. This is one of my favorite topics and something that is oh so important, not just in our personal lives, but in our businesses as well.

So let’s dive in and see what’s out there in the blogosphere on this topic!

I haven’t listed these in any particular order, so have a browse through and see what strikes your fancy.

If you’ve read a blog post that would fit in well with this list, whether it is yours or someone else’s, please submit it for me to include in the carnival.

How to Be Real Online (And Get Paid for It)

(by Johnny B Truant, guest post on Marie Forleo’s blog)

In this article, Johnny B Truant talks about being real online. Really real. To the point of breaking the rules and being goofy – if that’s who you are. He talks about how he does everything “wrong” and “backwards”, and because it’s in line with who he is, he makes a lot of money doing it and people love working with him.
(Note: if use of the “f” word offends you, you may want to skip to the next article.)

“People are so accustomed to bullshit that when they see something or someone that is 3-dimensional and quirky and flawed and real, they know it’s genuine. They flock to it. They rally around it. No real, authentic, honest-to-goodness person is a niche. No true human has only one interest. No genuine person is perfect. Change your paradigm.” – Johnny B Truant

The Sweet and Sour Lessons of Creating Something Irresistible that Sells & is WORTH Selling

(by Andrea J Lee, guest post on Sarah Robinson’s blog series on Creating Irresistible Presence)

Andrea digs in to how to mix different aspects of who you are and what you do, the Sweet AND the Sour. I challenge you to read the article and do the exercise to find interesting combinations to play with for ideas with your business.

“You and I are a mess of combinations. In living human form, each of us is a mix that’s never existed before. And, you’re also a blank slate waiting for new, consciously-selected combinations.” – Andrea J Lee

Why Being a Geek is the best Way to Influence People

(by Mars Dorian at MarsDorian.com)

Being a geek is not a bad thing, nor is it just for “techy-type” people, or the “traditional” geeks, according to Mars. I loved his take on this and he inspired me to look for my geekyness. See if you want to be a geek too after reading this one.

“True geeks gain a massive following in their niche – they captivate the audience with their knowledge and shiny passion. They know everything about their subject, because they live and breath it day and night. They are fanatics, but in a good way. Their obsession is so strong, that it will heavily influence you. A master geek has the power to turn YOU into a geek. And when that happens, everything is possible.” – Mars Dorian

Blogosphere Trends + Your Blog’s Tone

(by Kimberly Turner on Darren Rowse’s blog, ProBlogger.com)

If you are a blogger, or have a blog as part of your business (or personal), is the tone you use in your blog the same tone you use when talking to your friends or clients? If your friends and family were to read your blog, would they recognize you from it?

“Bloggers whose personalities shine through their writing are often more appealing, engaging, readable, and influential than those who hide their true voices. Read your three most recent posts. Do they “sound” like you? As in, would people who know you well in real life recognize your voice in your posts?” – Kimberly Turner

How to Find What You’re Passionate About (And Get Paid For It)

(by Scott H Young at ScottHYoung.com)

Scott has a slightly different perspective on finding your passion. I love how it’s all about taking action and just going out there and doing it…

“Being really good at something you hate, won’t make you love it. But being really good at something you’re curious about, can. Instead of staring at your navel, trying to discover your passions, go out in the world and start creating them.” – Scott H Young

I Do Everything Wrong

(by Johnny B Truant at JohnnyBTruant.com)

Johnny B Truant has such a great take on being yourself that I just had to include him twice in this carnival. Here he talks about how (and why) he does everything wrong, and why it seems to work for him.

“I just find it interesting that the boundaries of authenticity can apparently be pushed much further than I ever would have thought. I don’t seem to need to be an internet pro. Apparently I can get away with being good at what I do, without the sparkles and glitter and e-commerce razzmatazz.” – Johnny B Truant

    thanx for including me, Jess

I also luv Johnny’s “I do everything wrong” – it’s a very powerful message, and I apply most of it myself. The digital world doesn’t need corporate style drones, the world needs geeks like us !

    Hey Jess,

Nice list of happy thoughts here. These are all new to me, so I am going to read them. But, I do like how you put them together by theme and that you gave a short description. :)

    Have a great day!

  4. Hi Jess!

Like your blog carnival here. Which was is the Carousel? That’s my favorite carnival ride. Love those horses, even if they can only gallop in a circle! Have read a few of these. Will check out the Andrea Lee one. Much thanks. Enjoy the carnival. Giulietta

    • Jess Webb says:

      Hi Giulietta!

LOL – I’m not sure which one is the Carousel – I hadn’t selected one for that. ;)

Glad you enjoyed the Carnival and thanks for dropping by!

    Hi Jess,

What a great selection! I’ve only read one of the articles, although I’m pretty sure I recognize almost everyone on your list. Thanks for the recommendations as I will definitely be checking them out. I quite like the idea of having the best ones in one spot. It makes it easier to discover real gems :-)

    Thanks,
    Karen

  7. Very helpful for bloggers specially, it was helpful to me also as I’m new to blogging.

What I learned this article is you can use this style/skill in off line world as well where you can deal with your friends and family, it is really happy life if you give some thing real to your friends and family.
