This article was inspired by Sarah Robinson’s article “3 Branding Questions Every Entrepreneur Must Answer” over at Escaping Mediocrity. As I read her article it jumped out at me how key it is be a problem solver.
Why Problems?
Think about it. Why do people usually buy things? Because they have a problem. Their car needs repairs. Their hair needs cut. They need help marketing their business. They are having relationship problems. They are sick and need some help.
They have problems. Deep, painful problems. And even the seemingly insignificant problems can be painful to them! This is why it is important to put yourself in their shoes and find out where their pain and problems are.
Once you find that pain, you can speak to them about it and they’ll feel like you really “get” them, because you’ve taken the time to understand their problem.
Where is the Solution?
Now it’s time to look at how you can solve their problem or relieve their pain.
What solution can you offer to solve a problem they have? What secret can you give them to help them turn that problem around and relieve the pain or frustration?
People are happy to pay money for the right solution to their problems. If you have a solution, you should be offering it!
What Problems do My Clients Have?
As an example, here is the problem that my ideal client has: They want to have an online vehicle to build their business and create the lifestyle they dream of. They want to feel that their brand, their online image, truly reflects who they are and what they are meant to do. They are afraid of looking amateur or just scraping by as-is and not getting out there in the big way that they are meant to, but don’t have the know-how or skills to take their image to the next level online.
How do I Solve the Problem?
Simple. I help them to create an irresistible brand that truly reflects them, their quirkiness and their mission and purpose. I help them to get that image, that expression of themselves, out across all of their online places to attract the people they are meant to serve. I bring the technical skills and know how and combine it with their unique passion and gifts to make their brand truly irresistible to their right people.
What About You?
What problem do you help people solve, and how do you do it? Tell me about it in the comments.

Loved this post, Jess, and Sarah Robinson’s, too!! Great post to link to for the 31DBBB task of the day.
In answer to your “what problem do I help people solve” question …
I help single women entrepreneurs find low-cost and no-cost ways to market their business. The biggest problem that keeps them stuck is a super slim biz-building budget. Many of them are working with a $0 budget.

Good for you on being clear on the problem you solve and how you do it!
Jess, you could have written this post about sales pages. Same principles! Thanks for the reminder about solving problems and I liked how you weaved in your problem-solving solution!
Hi Lis!
Ohhh, good point on the sales pages!
Glad you liked the article, and thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment.
Jess, loved this post. I help women feel comfortable being naked…in all senses of the word. I teach them how to nourish their bellies, love their bodies and accept them selves. The best part is I make sure they get to indulge without ever feeling guilty.
Hi Kimberly!
Thanks for dropping by again – always fun to hear from you!
I LOVE the solution you offer – it is something that is soooo needed too.
hi Jess, great point here. There’s a lot of money to be made solving other people’s problems.
Your site is looking good!
Hi Matthew!
Glad you enjoyed the article – and thanks for the compliment on my site!
Hi Jess
I have been MIA for awhile now as I set up a new site. And yes, hopefully it will solve some problems and help heaps of people along the way. It is a psoriasis and other skin conditions site.
I love organic natural products and natural health, so have been researching clinical trials that are showing natural products do have specific healing properties. With a nursing background, hopefully I can put a lot of the articles into words that non-medical people can understand.
Just launched today, so this post is very timely for me; even though written some months ago. Thanks for sharing Jess. Great to be back.

Hi Patricia! Great to see you again! Your new site sounds exciting, I’d love to check it out. I’m all about organic natural products and health myself, and always enjoy reading and learning more about it. I think it’s a niche that a lot of people are interested in as well, so I hope you do well with it!
